The enormous mountain view of Manaslu and Ganesh is shocking. There’s the two-horned massif of Manaslu (8156m), the circumnavigation of which is a contemplation on the marvels of Himalayan topography. There’s Ganesh Himal (7406m), named for the serpentine southern edge that summons the elephant-headed Hindu lord of favorable luck. And after that there’s Himalchuli (7893m), which rises a mind boggling 7000m from the Marsyangdi River. Settled in the middle of these Himalayan monsters are towns that draw from Hindu and Buddhist impacts. Include a sprinking of butterflies in the midst of woodlands from sal to pine, and you’ll be persuaded you’ll get a sight of the timid red panda.

The Manaslu and Ganesh area is balanced amongst past and future – the towns still unfrequented, however effectively inviting guests – this is the ideal opportunity to go for an essence of the unbeaten trail in the following trekker’s Mecca.
